The blower motor resistor is very common to fail and causes you to lose one or more low medium or high speeds. The blower motor itself also wears out and as it ages it requires more amperage to run. This extra amperage also causes the resistor to fail from too many amps passing through it. The proper repair is to replace the worn blower motor and resistor. Failure to replace the blower motor should only be done if you have verified the proper amperage draw through the blower motor, otherwise you will end up with repeated resistor failure.
