Did your Sprinter van w/ 3.0L Diesel all of a sudden lose power and give you a "Limp Home Mode" message? If so, this simple blog post is for you.
**We first want to mention that we always recommend a qualified ACE certified automotive technician to diagnose and repair your vehicle. There is much value in a profesional with diagnostic equipment, software and expertise. With that said, this can be expensive and many problems have been successfully diagnosed and repaired by do-it-yourselfers.
1. You can shut down and then restart the engine to reset this, however you are not fixing anything. This is a very temporary solution to get you home.
2. If your vehicle is maintained properly, then you likley have the basic causes covered. The basic causes can be a very dirty air filter, a leak in the intake or turbo lines, and or a faulty EGR valve. The line leaks and EGR issues should set a diagnositc trouble code in hte vehicle computer and should turn on a check engien light. Those issues must be diagnosed and repaired or they can lead to a failed intake flap motor.
3. If no check engine light came on, all of the above is ok, and you all of a sudden lose power and get the limp home message, then you may just need a flap motor and intake cleaning.
